So I have been in the UK for about two days now and all I can say is jetlag is a real thing and it can really make you feel insane. The picture above was taken at a park in West London at about 8:30am on Sunday after I had been awake at least four hours. I'm hoping my sleep schedule adjusts soon because I don't think going to sleep at 6:00pm in hostiles is really a thing, but I have to admit cities are so much more beautiful early in the morning. On my way to this park I passed so many interesting eateries and shops that wouldn't even be open for hours and there was almost no one on the street. It is a cool feeling to have a city to yourself for a few hours.
I really have only gotten to explore the outskirts of the city for a day so far, so I haven't seen much yet. Although apparently I fit in because I have been asked for directions three times already and have only embarrassed myself once! I got into London around 11:30 local time on Saturday and had a really nerve racking wait in border control, mostly because when I first got my boarding pass in Seattle on of the attendants told me that since I didn't have a return ticket the agents in the UK would probably make me buy one before I could enter the country because they are "very strict" about these things. Nope, that is false, I got through the checkpoint faster than almost everyone else. So much stress for nothing.
On another note- it pays to be nice to flight staff people! One of the attendant on my flight to Iceland was having a hard time getting passengers to cooperate with safety regulations in the exit rows, and my row was the only one that didn't give her any trouble. After the flight took off she moved me to a seat in an isle all by myself. Space on 8 hour flights is more than priceless.
Anyways I have had a nice stay in West London so far but today I am relocating to a hostel right next to Hyde Park in Central London, so I should have some more interesting stories soon.
Here are a few more pictures from London so far:
The window in my room.
Every house looks like this, plus colored doors!
This creepy sculpture made of toys really reminded me of home.
Yay!!! I'm so excited you made it! I can't wait to read more, have a wonderful time Rehbehkah!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you made it. I loved London. When we were there Ron and I took a train to Scotland. That is where you great grandma and great grandfather Anna Bryde Clark and John Clark immigrated. Check out Padding Station, if you get a chance. Hope you have good weather. Might need a pair of Wellingtons
ReplyDeleteWhen you give directions, make sure to have a different accent every time. That should make things more interesting ;)
